The World’s first 1 Ton Coupon

1 ton couponThe Volkswagen Amarok is a tough pickup, so when we decided to give away a coupon for a free tow bar, we didn’t hand out just any coupon. We created the world’s first 1 Ton Coupon!
Most of our target audience don’t know that it is the only Double Cab automatic 4×4 pick-up in South Africa that can carry a one-ton load. The strategy behind the campaign was to demonstrate this toughness to potential consumers.
So we went to the place where you find lots of pick-up owners: Builder Warehouse , the country’s biggest chain of DIY stores. Pickup drivers are not easily impressed but it succeed to catch their attention. In the meantime on radio and online, we invited Amarok owners to redeem the coupon. It didn’t take long before we had an Amarok driver who was keen to show off the superior load capacity of his vehicle.
What was an immovable object for any other pick up, was a pretty simple task for the Volkswagen Amarok. By turning a simple promotional item into the world’s heaviest coupon, we gave Amarok drivers everywhere instant bragging rights.

#WingsForLife… Meet The Team.

The Ogilvy Cape Town runners club has entered a team into the Wings for Life charity run this year, which takes place tomorrow, Sunday, 3 May.

Wings for Life is a global run which was established as a not-for-profit organisation to raise funds for spinal cord research. The run encompasses 32 locations, in which everyone runs at the same time, all over the world. The ‘finish line’ will be chasing the runners by way of a ‘catcher car’. Once a catcher car overtakes a runner their race is over. The beauty of it is that you set your own distance!

Meet the team:

Shannon Breeze, aka Breezy, Account Manager:

  1. What have you done to prep for the run? Carbo load 🙂
  2. What made you sign up for this run in particular? I have never entered a race of this nature before and thought it would be a fun challenge.
  3. Who do you think will be overtaken by the car first? More than likely me or Brittney.
  4. Who do you think will delay wine-o-clock the most? Troy.

Robin Hook, Group Account Director.

  1. What have you done to prep for the run? Training has not really gone as planned 🙂  Less time on the road and a little too much time in the water!  So let’s just hope that the car runs out of petrol before it catches me!
  2. What made you sign up for this run in particular? It’s a fantastic cause to support first and foremost!  But also a really cool concept for a race.  There’s no other race in the world where the finish line chases you! 🙂
  3. Who do you think will be overtaken by the car first?  I may make some enemies here….  🙂  But perhaps Brittney?
  4. Who do you think will delay wine-o-clock the most? There is no doubt that Troy ‘the racing snake’ Squires will eat into much deserved wine time!

Rowan Eva, Business Director:

  1. What have you done to prep for the run? I have run a few other races in the run up to this.
  2. What made you sign up for this run in particular? The moving finish line, and the fact that it is a world run, is a pretty unique concept.
  3. Who do you think will be overtaken by the car first? Shannon or Brittney 😉 (Or me! I’m running a 10km in the morning…)
  4. Who do you think will delay wine-o-clock the most?Troy…

Leila Osato, PR Junior Strategist:

  1. What have you done to prep for the run? I only decided on running the race yesterday so preparations will include…
Lots of carbo-loading and some mental preparation (taken into account this will be my first running race)… Oh and hopefully a few kms of training before Sunday 🙂
  2. What made you sign up for the run in particular? a/ I was backup; b/ It’s for a great cause so I accepted 🙂
  3. Who do you think will be overtaken by the car first? Probably me but I am secretly hoping it will be Brittney Kok 😉 SORRRRRRY BRIT
  4. Who do you think will delay wine-o-clock the most? Troy IronMan Squires.

Brittney Kok, PR Account Executive:

  1. What have you done to prep for the run? Mostly mentally prepare myself about the fact that I don’t have to run far, you know being optimistic.
  2. What made you sign up for this run in particular? Jess made me. But also it’s a great opportunity to do something fun for a good cause. Also, I was promised wine.
  3. Who do you think will be overtaken by the car first? Definitely me.
  4. Who do you think will delay wine-o-clock the most? Basically, everyone else.

Jess Webb, PR Account Director:

  1. What have you done to prep for the run? Usually I’m very good at running most mornings, but with long weekends requiring plenty of eating and drinking and the mornings getting darker & colder – I have to say I haven’t done a great deal to prepare at all!
  2. What made you sign up for this run in particular? I love running, so for a good cause with the Ogilvy team was a no-brainer.
  3. Who do you think will be overtaken by the car first? Brittney seems to think it will be her, but I have a feeling she’s a little dark horse!
  4. Who do you think will delay wine-o-clock the most? Troy! Clearly the man is half machine casually clocking up Iron Man and the London Marathon in the last few weeks!

Kyle Wilson, PR Account Director:

  1. What have you done to prep for the run? Little, but did manage to squeak in a 12k-er last Sunday
  2. What made you sign up for this run in particular? It’s a different, interesting and likely fun new take on the traditional race
  3. Who do you think will be overtaken by the car first? Hook – definitely – and that’s if he even gets off the Start line
  4. Who do you think will delay wine-o-clock the most? Troy, he’s proper, unlike the rest of us pretenders, so will likely be out there a while. Either him or Rowan, who’ll likely hold us all up whilst ‘Gramming his next masterpiece.

Nicky Schermer, Business Consultant:

  1. What have you done to prep for the run? Not much. Have been doing some of the FNB Cape Town 12 ONE RUN training sessions on Friday mornings in town, and trying to squeeze in another run or two in the week.
  2. What made you sign up for this run in particular? The format, the cause and an opportunity to run with the Ogilvy team.
  3. Who do you think will be overtaken by the car first? Probably me!
  4. Who do you think will delay wine-o-clock the most? Probably Troy – we may not wait for him though.

Troy Squires, Account Director:

20150430_163035

  1. What have you done to prep for the run? Ironman South Africa – 29 March & London Marathon 26 April (Yip, I’m that guy.)
  2. What made you sign up for this run in particular? Unique format which is different to any kind of run even I’ve ever done. The team element also creates a great dynamic, as there’s an incentive to run longer and further for the benefit of the team!
  3. Who do you think will be overtaken by the car first? Me. My legs are broken. Refer to question 1.
  4. Who do you think will delay wine-o-clock the most? Jess Webb. I’ve crossed paths with her a few times on my training runs so know she’s been putting in the miles.
